Support for the Journey, Not Just the Destination
Family separation, conflict, and change are rarely just legal experiences, but rather deeply personal, relational and emotional ones. The legal process provides a necessary framework for the future, yet the emotional impact of separation often requires a specialised level of care. In keeping with Oikos Family Law’s commitment to holistic care, our affiliated counselling practice, Oikos Counselling, works alongside us to support the wellbeing of our clients and their families.

Whether you are currently a legal client of Oikos Family Law or simply someone seeking a way forward through relational stress, our counselling provides a safe and confidential space to help people in:
- Separation & Divorce

- Trauma
Important: If you need immediate or crisis support, please contact Lifeline (13 11 14) or Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636). In an emergency, call 000.

Our Approach to Healing
We draw on evidence-based, client-centred approaches tailored to each person’s unique circumstances and goals, incorporating systems-informed practice, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and trauma-informed care.
Confidentiality & Ethics: While Oikos Family Law and Oikos Counselling share a holistic vision, your privacy is paramount. Frequently Asked Questions
How does counselling work alongside my legal matter?
While the Oikos legal and counselling services are separate professional entities, they share a common philosophy of care. Having an affiliated counsellor means we understand the unique pressures of the family law process. We have found that when individuals receive dedicated emotional support during legal settlements, they are better equipped to make rational, long-term decisions for themselves and their children.
However, the two services are distinct: your legal strategy focuses on your rights and obligations, while counselling focuses on your emotional resilience and communication tools. You can choose to use either service independently or both together, depending on your needs.
Is my counselling confidential from my lawyer?
Yes. Your privacy and the integrity of the therapeutic relationship are paramount. Detailed clinical notes and specific conversations from your counselling sessions are not shared with your legal team unless you provide express written consent. We maintain strict ethical boundaries to ensure your counselling remains a safe, confidential space to process your experience.
Do I need to be a client of Oikos Family Law to book a session?
Not at all. Our counselling service is open to anyone navigating separation, parenting challenges, or relational transitions, regardless of whether they have a legal matter with Oikos Family Law, another law firm, or have no legal matters pending. We are committed to supporting the broader community in Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs and offer the same level of dedicated care to all individuals and families seeking a healthier way forward.
